Senior Roku/BrightScript Developer

Madrid, Spain / Oslo, Norway or Remote (Europe) only.

We’re expanding our Frontend Engineering team of Streaming TV Apps to build world-class experiences for Roku. Are you an experienced BrightScript developer who’s genuinely excited about the platform and ready to own architecture decisions on real, high-scale products, not just contribute to them?

On Roku specifically, our work covers the full range of what it takes to design, build and maintain apps at scale on the platform, including performance and reliability, platform integrations, and keeping pace with Roku’s evolving ecosystem. We engage directly with Roku to ensure smooth operations and certification on their App Store.

Quality and performance are highly important to us, so code review, team coordination and knowledge sharing matter a lot. As a member of the team, you’ll be expected to own technical decisions for your area, set direction on architecture and code quality, and help less experienced engineers grow, not just write code yourself.

Roku Engineer Skills

• (Mandatory) 4+ years of specifically professional Roku App development experience, with at least 8+ years overall focused on other apps too
• Strong, hands-on experience with BrightScript, SceneGraph, and the Roku SDK
• Proven track record shipping and maintaining production-grade Roku channels, ideally at meaningful scale or complexity
• Awareness of Roku platform guidelines and publishing rules
• Experience with streaming/video delivery protocols (HLS, DASH) and DRM
• Deep familiarity with the practical realities of building for Roku hardware, including performance and platform-specific quirks
• Comfortable owning architecture decisions and mentoring other engineers
• Comfortable working async and collaborating with a distributed team, if working remotely
• English (mandatory) & Spanish/Norwegian (appreciated) working language

PREFERRED

• Experience with monetisation or platform integrations
• Experience with testing approaches in the Roku ecosystem
• Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript or other web technologies, since our teams work across multiple platforms
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
• Other Smart TV or Mobile App development experience

What Interviewing Looks Like

A straightforward process including at least an initial conversation, a profile and acumen check, and a technical discussion focused on real Roku problems. Typically 2 to 3 stages end to end.
